Abstract (EN)
It is well-known that patients have anxiety during preoperative period due to many reasons related with anesthesia and surgery. Knowing these reasons causing anxiety may be beneficial for choosing methods in premedication for reducing this anxious state during preoperative period. In pregnants who will undergo cesarean, preoperative anxiety may cause perioperative and postoperative complications. Being aware of the degree of preoperative anxiety in pregnants is important for identifying premedication method which will be used for dealing with this anxiety. Various factors may influence preoperative anxiety in pregnants. In this study, we aimed to compare anxiety of pregnants who were planned for their first cesarean and who were planned for their repeated cesarean by using STAI-1 (state) and STAI-2 (trait). Demographic information form was filled by patients in our anesthesiology polyclinic in preoperative period; then they were asked for answering STAI-1 and STAI-2 tests measuring state-trait anxiety. In conclusion, there were no significant difference between pregnants who were planned for their first cesarean and who were planned for their repeated cesarean as elective cesarean during preoperative period in terms of state-trait anxiety scores. However; pregnants with low education (high school or below), who were unemployed, who had abortus and/or stillbirth, whose babies had comorbid illness, who were not acknowledged, who had baby girls but had expected different gender, who have had additional illness related with pregnancy during pregnancy follow-ups had high anxiety. Key Words: Pre-operative Anxiety, Elective Cesarean, STAI
