Abstract (EN)
Object: Inflamatuar response occuring with vascular ınjury results as vascular complication at the form of intimal hyperplasia, and this causes serious mortality and morbidity. Consequently many studies were made for searching the strategies against intimal hyperplasia. In this study we searched the effects of atorvastatin on intimal hyperplasia. Method:The model of intimal vascular injury-intimal hyperplasia was formed for searching the effects of statins.Rats were divided to 4 groups; aortic intimal injury was made at3 groups and only laparotomi was made to the last group. Atorvastatin (1mg/kg) to Group 1, carboxy methyl celulose to Group 2, saline (1cc/day) to Group 3 and no drug or solution to Group 4 were injected. All groups were feeded normally per 3 weeks and at the end of this time rats were sacrified. During this procedure 3cc blood was analyzed for total cholesterol and LDL values. Furthermore all injured aortic segments were evaluated histopatholically. Histopathological analyses included intima media rate, luminal narrowing rate and intimal muscle cell increase. Results: The level of cholesterole and LDL was analysed as significiantly lower at statin injected group. Furthermore the intima media rate and muscle cell increase were less at statin injected group. No difference was analaysed for luminal narrowing parameter for all groups. Conclusion: Hypolipidemic agent, atorvastatin has pleiotropic effects and supresses intimal hyperplasia and support remodelling of intima.
