Exaination of Ercüment Batanay's makam and technical specifications in tanbur improvisations

This study, which aims to reveal the makam understanding and performance characteristics of Ercüment Batanay, who has an important place in Turkish Music with his tanbur playing, by examining his taksim performances, is a descriptive research based on the survey model, including musical analysis and qualitative methods. Batanay is thought to have become a school in tanbur performance by influencing the tanbur players after him with his unique performance, technique and mannerisms. In this direction, a literature review was conducted on Ercüment Batanay's life and performance, and academic studies on the subject were examined by the literature review method. Batanay's taksim recordings were accessed and recordings suitable for the study were selected in line with the scope of the research. Ercüment Batanay's taxis, 4 of which are transitional and 16 in total, were notated and analyzed in terms of maqam and technical aspects. In the technical analysis; the ornamentation techniques and expression elements used by Batanay in tanbur performance were examined and exemplified in detail. In the maqamal analysis, the characteristics of the course, passage and pitch usage of the makams of the taksims were explained. In the conclusion section, the analyses made in line with the sub-problems of the study are explained in detail in the light of the findings and suggestions are made. In addition, in the appendices index, the notes of the notated taksims are included.
