Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to investigate the self-compassion and violence tendency in men. In addition, with this study, it is aimed to reach the demographic characteristics of the participants such as age, number of siblings, education level, marital status and income level, the frequency of social media use, whether they have psychological problems and whether they receive psychological support. The participants of the study are male individuals aged 18 and over (364 participants) in the Toroslar district of Mersin province. Within the scope of the research, the Violence Tendency Scale was used to determine the participants' violence tendency levels, the Self-Sensitivity Scale was used to determine their self-compassion levels, and the Personal Information Form was used to determine the participants' demographic information, social media usage time, psychological problems, and psychological support status. Before the analysis of the research data was carried out, it was decided whether the scores obtained from the Violence Tendency and Self-Sensitivity Scales of the participants showed a normal distribution. In this context, Spearman Rank Deciency Correlation Coefficient was calculated in the investigation of the relationships between self-compassion and violence tendency of the participants in the study. One-way analysis of variance in normally distributed dimensions and Kruskal Wallis Test in non-normally distributed dimensions were used to examine whether the scores obtained from the Violence Tendency and Self-Sensitivity Scales differed according to age, number of siblings, education level, educational status of parents, place of childhood, marital status, number of children, income level and frequency of social media use. Similarly, the T test was used for scores with normal distribution, and the Mann Whitney U Test was used for cases without normal distribution to examine whether the scores the participants received from the Violence Tendency and Self-Sensitivity Scales differed according to the marital status of their parents, whether they had children, whether they had psychological problems, and whether they received psychological assistance. As a result, there was no significant differentiation according to age levels in the sub-dimensions of men's tendency to violence, self-compassion and self-compassion. But men's overidentification, self-judgment and isolation sub-dimension rank averages according to the number of siblings; total rank averages of the Self-Sensitivity Scale and sharing awareness, self-compassion, consciousness sub-dimension scores according to their education level; tendency to violence, self-judgment and isolation sub-dimension rank averages according to where childhood passed; self-compassion rank averages and consciousness scores according to whether they have children; overidentification rank averages according to the number of children; self-compassion, self-judgment and isolation rank averages and sharing awareness, self-compassion and consciousness scores according to the income level; self-compassion sub-dimension scores according to the duration of social media use, violence tendency, overidentification and self-judgment rank averages and sharing awareness sub-dimension scores according to the psychological problem states; it has been found that the order averages of self-compassion, overidentification and self-judgment differ significantly according to the situations of receiving psychological assistance. As a result of the research, it is seen that there is a negative significant relationship between the participants' tendency to violence and their self-compassion levels. When examined in terms of the sub-dimensions of self-compassion, it is seen that there is a positively significant relationship between the participants' violent tendencies and the scores of overidentification, self-judgment and isolation. When it is evaluated in terms of the direction and level of relationships, it can be said that overidentification, self-judgment and isolation also increase as the tendency to violence increases, and self-compassion increases when the tendency to violence decreases, this relationship is significant, but at a low level (Büyüköztürk, 2015).
