Abstract (EN)
This thesis starts with researching the development of rationalist philosophy in Europe and the connections between modernism and capitalism, as well as exploring the critiques towards it within the fields of philosophy and avant-garde art. Romantic tradition, thoughts of Baudelaire and Nietzsche are explored within the scope of critiques against rationality as well as taking into account the field of art. These critiques have been compared with examples from thinkers who are close to our modern era. The links between rationality and modernism are researched with regards to the perception of avant-garde artists. Their thoughts on reason and modern life are compared and exemplified through the monuments they have created.
