Abstract (EN)

Population growth problems are one of the main problems in our country and all over the world. Also, the increase in the urban population has increased mobility in the cities. Vehicle delays, stop and start movements occur from traffic problems and this causes environmental problems as it increases fuel consumption, CO and other harmful emissions. Traffic problems of getting become a crucial concept in terms of fuel consumption effect on limited energy resources and carbon emissions effects and harmful greenhouse gas effects on climate change as much as transportation services. It is aimed to contribute to the literature to make the studies about traffic, which should be evaluated in many ways, become more understandable. The purpose of the study is to simulate the correct cycle time for the signalized intersection area in real-time and to show the importance of using the optimum time in reducing the problems caused by the signalization. In order to ensure operating safe and active traffic, intersections are evaluated as crucial points. In this study, Esentepe Intersection, which is one of the critical points for the city of Bursa, was chosen as the study area. With the PTV Vissim program on the intersection, 5 different scenarios were created and the effect of different cycle times on the performance was examined. In this study, queue length, average vehicle delay, service level, CO emissions, and fuel consumption are considered for performance parameters. First of all, the performance results of the intersection area in the current state of the signal circuit time were evaluated with the Vissim program. According to simulation results, it has been determined that the performance values have improved by making a new arrangement in the current state signal times. Through new signal arrangements, period time was raised and decreased at a determined rate to find out optimum period time. Optimum times determined by Webster's method and simulation were compared. The performance parameters which is examined within the scope of the study were compared on the current situation and scenarios. In conclusion, the study shows that; Optimum time which is found as a result of study is provide the best performance results and has an important effect on intersection performance.
