Detection and scructural properties of the lullabies of Manavs of Eskişehir

Many different ethnic communities live within the borders of Eskişehir province. One among these, which and calls itself Manav, has an important musical culture. An important element of this musical culture is the tradition of singing lullabies. While lullabies are known by different names in different cultures in the world, it has been seen that they are mostly labeled as "nenni" in Manavs. Lullabies in the Manav tradition, as in the typical Anatolian tradition, are melodies with lyrics used for purposes such as entertaining the baby in order to ensure its peace, transfering cultural and social values to its memory with their words, putting him to sleep, etc. and are sung in this cultural environment especially from the age of 6 months. The study was designed in the design of cultural analysis (ethnography), one of the qualitative research designs. In this context, in order to examine the socio-cultural and musical aspects of the lullabies of the Manav culture, a field study was conducted in 6 settlements, including the center, Alpagut, Karaoğlan, Karageyikli, Uyuzhamam and Büğdüz, within the borders of Eskişehir Province. In the field studies, face-to-face interviews were made with 16 resource people and verbal and musical data were obtained about the tradition of singing lullabies in Manavs. In addition, in the field study, it has been determined that the tradition of singing lullaby is maintained by women and that women see this tradition as a way of expressing themselves. In the study, 22 lullaby samples obtained through field research were studied in terms of theme, form, sound range, final sound, modal features and rhythmic structure. In the musical evaluations it has been determined that Segâh, Hüseynî, Sabâ and Hicaz maqam features are predominantly used in the performance samples, and free meter, 4/4 and 3/4 rhythmic structures are predominantly seen in the rhythmic aspects of the melodies. When examined from a literary point of view, lullabies were seen to use mostly free, 8 and 11 syllable measures and that their lyrics include wishes and prayers, and subjects such as love and religion are covered.
