Abstract (EN)
Prediabetes is mentioned when the blood glucose level does not reach the diagnostic limits of diabetes but is still higher than it should be. The development of diabetes and the development of diabetes-related clinical complications can be prevented with early diagnosis, and it is seen in some publications that the rate of diabetes development is 70% if not intervened. Although it is known that family physicians play an extremely important role in preventive medicine since they are the first point of contact with the patient's health system, the comprehensive approach, which is one of the basic principles of family medicine, aims to improve and protect health, and therefore prediabetes has an important place. In our study, we aimed to determine the frequency of prediabetes in people who applied to the Family Medicine Polyclinic due to periodic health examinations, to address the potential risk of diabetes in the future in people without disease symptoms and to raise awareness about prediabetes, especially among family physicians. As a result of the research, it was reported by the health authority that 15.3% of the prediabetic people were sick. Screening adults with no symptoms for prediabetes can enable early diagnosis and treatment and thus change health outcomes. Data were performed using SPSS version 21.0 software (IBM Corpn., Armonk, NY, USA). p value <0.05 was considered significant. In our study, we found that the prevalence of prediabetes was 31.6% and therefore the risk of developing type 2 diabetes (T2D) was considerably higher in those who applied for periodic health examination. Considering the increasing incidence of T2D, it is concluded that the rate of diagnosis and treatment of prediabetes by healthcare professionals is low. Prediabetes, which is the first stage before progressing to T2D, can be detected by family physicians with early diagnosis and completely treated with timely intervention.
