Examination of individuals who applied for esteric surgery in terms of mental health, body perception and self-esteem

The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychological symptoms, body perceptions and self-esteem of 108 people, 73 women and 35 men, who applied to Necmettin Erbakan University Meram Medical Faculty Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Polyclinic for the first time between 1 June and 31 December with the request of plastic surgery. It is a cross-sectional and descriptive study with the aim of examining the area of plastic surgery (age, gender, education and marital status). Brief Symptom Inventory, Body Image Scale, and Rosenberg Self-Esteem scales were used to collect data in the study. As a result of the SPSS analysis of the data obtained from the study, the mean VAI score of the individuals who applied for the surgery for the first time with the desire for aesthetics was determined as 159.33± 21.76. In the study, the mean RBSS score of the individuals who applied to surgery for the first time with the desire for aesthetics was found to be 7.47±4.49. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that there was a negative correlation between anxiety, negative self, somatization and hostility and VAI, and positive significant correlations were found between anxiety, negative self, somatization and hostility and RBRS. Depression levels VAS and RBSS were significantly related was not detected. The RBSS variable, which is associated with anxiety, predicts 11% of anxiety. The RBSS variable, which is related to the negative self, predicts 10% of the negative self. Among the predictive variables of VAI and RBRS, which are associated with hostility, the VAS variable predicts 10% of hostility, and the RBSS variable predicts 14% of dehostility. According to these results, it was observed that there was a significant correlation between preoperative psychological symptom VAS and RBSS levels of individuals who applied for plastic surgery fort he first time.
