Abstract (EN)
The exposure of the Internet of Things (IoT) in the last years has strongly affected everything around us in our life by providing innovations like smart farming, smart homes, and remote healthcare services, among others. As the quantity of these devices and their uses increases rapidly, the significant risk posed by the extensive network of interconnected devices calls for effective intrusion detection and prevention methods. In this study, we propose using Software Defined Networks (SDN) in smart homes systems to prevent cyber-attacks like Distributed Denial of server Attacks (DDoS), Man in The Middle Attack (MITM), etc. The proposed method uses the firewall at the SDN controller and Static IP addresses to register the home devices in the controller to prevent any intruder to connect to the network. The network structure was constructed and executed on Mininet, operating on a Virtual Machine (VM), in order to assess and scrutinize the efficiency of the suggested approach. The proposed method can deny DDoS attacks and inform the administrator that there is an attack on the network from an intruder.
