Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study was to evaluate the outfield radiation dose in the treatment of breast cancer using hypofractionated radiation therapy with thermoluminescence dosimetry, specifically TLD-100 (LiF: Mg, Ti). To assess the variability in TLD responses, we employed the element correction factor (ECF) generation method. For measuring point doses in organs outside the treatment fields, we placed sixteen TLD- 100 chips in nine specific locations within the Rando phantom used for breast cancer radiation treatment (260 cGy x 16 = 41.6 Gy in 16 fractions). The TLDs were read using a Harshaw QS 3500 manual type reader connected to a PC, where we studied and analyzed the thermoluminescence signals. The results indicated that the highest received dose values were observed in the esophagus (≈3960 cGy) and trachea (≈3464 cGy). Furthermore, our findings demonstrate that TLD-100 chips are suitable for measuring point doses in hypofractionated radiotherapy for breast cancer.
