Abstract (EN)
Aim; Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), is not fully reversible characterized by airflow limitation, a preventable and treatable disease. We planned to investigate the effects of oxygen therapy on methabolysm and if it is beneficial for patients have grade 4 COPD diagnosis and take therapy for this. Materials and Methods; COPD diagnosed and first time oxygen therapy will take 19 patients include in the study. Arterial blood gases were viewed and pulmonary function test was performed on patients. Metabolic Holter device (SensWear ) was installed to patients before and after the oxygen therapy at least 3 days. Holter data digitized electronic system. The daily average calculated the data. Results; Before and after oxygen treatment showed a significant increase in energy consumption for patients in study. (Pre-treatment; 1497 ± 596, after treatment, 2977 ± 5985, p = 0. 044). Again, the number of steps (pre-treatment; 2056 ± 2569 after treatment, 2120 ± 1958, p = 0. 03), at rest time (pre-treatment; 6:36 ± 3. 31 after treatment; 3:47 ± 2. 19, p <0. 03), sleep time (pre-treatment; 4:23 ± 2. 13 after treatment, 2. 33 ±1. 42, p <0. 00) showed significant differences. Discussion: COPD patients with respiratory failure, the daily energy consumption in other wordsincrease in energy consumption. In addition, the immobility of patientsdecreased, and physical activity duration increased. Besides the period of time spent asleep decreased, it seems like a contradiction but patients says they sleep effective. As a result, next term oxygen therapy should begin early in patients with COPD, increased adherence to treatment and should be encouraged. Oxygen therapy willprevent morbidity and mortality due to hypoxia and also will be prevented complications secondary to immobilization.
