Investigation of the effect of smart board use in science science on student academic success

In this study, it is aimed to examine the effect of smart board usage on student academic achievement. For this purpose, a quasi-experimental method with pre-test and post-test patterns was used. In the 2016-2017 academic year, 24 fifth grade students from a secondary school in Doğankent, Giresun were selected as the study group. In this application, multiple choice questions and open-ended questions created by the researcher from the previous exam questions about heat and temperature at the end of the unit and at the end of the unit were applied to the experimental and control groups formed. Data were analyzed by SPSS 24 package program. According to Mann-Whitney U-Test results of the pre-test, multiple choice and open-ended questions were examined. According to these results, no statistically significant difference was found between the answers given to the multiple choice questions of the pre-test. There was no statistically significant result between the experimental and control groups according to the total score of the answers given to the open-ended questions of the post-test according to the Mann-Whitney U-Test. According to the multiple-choice scores, there was a statistically significant result among the groups according to Mann-Whitney U-test results. In addition, a statistically significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group between the groups according to the results of the Mann-Whitney U-Test. According to this situation, it can be said that experimental group students are more successful than control group students. Keywords: Smart board, science, student achievement
