A study on mercy education in science and technology lessons

The purpose of this study was to search the effect of feelings/moral for students' affection with the various activities prepared additively to curriculum as a part of Science subject upon 7th grade "Human and Environment" unit in the learning domain "Living beings and Life" . Pre test- post test control group quasi-experimental design was used in the study.The study was carried out with 17 (12 girls,5 boys) for experimental group,17 (11 girls, 6 boys) for control group thirty four students in total from 7th grades in 2012-2013 academic year in a secondary school which is located in a village in Dereli, Giresun. This study was realized as a part of "Human and Environment" unit in the learning domain of "Living Beings and Life" in the curriculum of Science Subject for 7th grade. Lessons were taught as predicted in curriculum in control group.On the other hand , enriched content and event schedule was conducted in experimental group by researcher to raise feeling for affection. In this context, content and activities involve lots of activities like visual,video, creative drama, worksheet, planting herb, poster, banner, station teaching, feeding pets at home, completing story,writing composition.Research continued for 5 weeks starting from the 1st week of May to 1st of June. Before starting study, affection questionnaire was carried out to experimental and control group a week ago. Then, content activities were conducted with experimental group during 5 weeks. After completed the study, the last affection questionnaire was conducted again to both group. There are 16 close end questions in demographic features part of measurement tool. 2nd part consists of 15 open- ended questions that work for determine in which degree the students' feeling of affection grow. Research data was obtained from the affection questionnaire designed by reseacher. The data obtained from affection questionnaire for sub problems within the frame of main purpose of study was analyzed with content analysis. At the end of the research, it was revealed that activities performed with experimental group, improved students' feeling/moral for affection positively.It was found that this activities carried out in Science Subject,changed the students' point of views for lessons. It was revealed that feeling/moral for affection can be improved except from "Religion Lesson" and "Social Studies".Other morals, like affection moral, can be taught to students with different method and techniques by analzying acquisitions within other unites in curriculum of Science Subject. Activities such as activities used in Science Subject, can be perpetuated by adding them in curriculum.
