The effect of athlete satisfaction and mental toughness on burnout in football players

Abstract (EN)
This A total of 191 football players playing in the academies of professional football teams participated in this study, which was conducted to examine the effects of athlete satisfaction and mental toughness on athlete burnout. Personal Information Form, Athlete Satisfaction Scale, Mental Toughness Scale and Athlete Burnout Scale were used as data collection tools. Pearson correlation test was used to reveal the relationship between the variables; and multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the prediction of athlete satisfaction and mental toughness on athlete burnout. According to the results of the analyses, a statistically significant difference was found between the variables of satisfaction with training hours and satisfaction with training equipment and Athlete Satisfaction sub-dimensions of coach satisfaction, individual satisfaction, team satisfaction and Athlete Burnout sub-dimension of devaluation. In addition, a significant difference was found between nutritional satisfaction and Athlete Satisfaction sub-dimensions of coach satisfaction, individual satisfaction, team satisfaction, Mental Toughness sub-dimensions of constancy, control and Athlete Burnout sub-dimension of reduced sense of accomplishment. Moderately significant negative correlations were found between athlete satisfaction, mental toughness and athlete burnout. Athlete satisfaction was found to be an important and significant predictor of Athlete Burnout sub-dimensions of reduced sense of accomplishment and devaluation. In addition, Mental Toughness sub-dimensions of confidence and control were found to be important and significant predictors of Athlete Burnout sub-dimension of reduced sense of accomplishment. As a result, it was concluded that athlete satisfaction and mental toughness were effective on athlete burnout, and variables related to subjective training satisfaction were also crucial for athletes.
