Abstract (EN)
This study focuses on the life and art of 20th century Italian artist Giorgio de Chirico, particularly his metaphysical period from 1909 to 1919. Titled "The Metaphysical Journey in Giorgio de Chirico's Life and Art (1909-1919)", this work examines the profound and complex interactions between the artist's life and his art, highlighting the impact of his childhood, family connections, and mythological elements on his metaphorical and symbolic artwork. Our research investigates the influence of figures such as Friedrich Nietzsche and Arnold Böcklin on de Chirico's artistic development and metaphysical painting perspective. It analyzes how metaphysical elements in his works were shaped by everything from childhood memories to daily experiences, and how observations of cities and architectures influenced him. These influences are embodied in recurring elements in his works, such as train imagery, the Argonauts metaphor, and mythological figures. Furthermore, the study evaluates how de Chirico's experiences in cities like Ferrara and Paris influenced the indoor and outdoor compositions in his art. During these periods, the artist reinterpreted the objects and landscapes around him through a metaphysical lens, deepening the metaphysical and enigmatic approach reflected in his works. The research posits that de Chirico's metaphysical journey in art was shaped not only by external interactions but also by personal experiences and spontaneous revelations. The ongoing interplay of internal and external influences throughout his life, articulated through a metaphysical language in his works, is critical to understanding de Chirico's art. This study aims to provide a detailed examination of de Chirico's artistic evolution and the formation process of metaphysical painting, presenting his place in art history within a clearer framework.
