A research on women's entrepreneurship in Giresun province

Abstract (EN)

Gender inequality towards women in society hinders women's access to economic freedoms and opportunities. In this sense, the problems experienced by women and men in the entrepreneurship process differ. The aim of this study is to reveal the profiles of women entrepreneurs and the problems they face in Giresun. In the analysis of the data, evaluations were made by using descriptive statistical analyzes. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to evaluate the hypotheses. The universe of the research consists of 370 women entrepreneurs in total. In this context, data to be used in the research were collected by applying a questionnaire to 90 women entrepreneurs. As a result of the study, it was seen that women entrepreneurs in Giresun turned to entrepreneurship in order to gain their economic independence and good communication with people was perceived as the most important condition for being an entrepreneur. In addition, it has been determined that the issues that women entrepreneurs have the most problems with are providing capital when establishing their businesses and bureaucratic procedures while carrying out their activities. It was observed that women entrepreneurs experienced the most physical and mental fatigue in their family life.
