Abstract (EN)
In the context of the continuous increase in global energy demand and the rise of environmental sustainability concerns, this research aims to examine the potential of using solar energy, one of the renewable energy sources, on a domestic scale. In this context, a photovoltaic (PV) solar energy system has been designed to meet the energy needs of a family of 4 people residing in Gölbaşı district of Ankara province and the technical and economic feasibility of this system has been analysed in detail. In the investigation, the energy production capacity, performance ratio and energy losses of the designed system were simulated and evaluated by using PVsyst software. The simulation results reveal the annual energy production potential of the system with numerical data, while also showing the efficiency level of the system in energy production. In addition to the technical features of the designed solar home system, the economic feasibility of the system has also been comprehensively analysed. In this context, simulation using PVsyst software has been used to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of the designed system, the payback period of the investment, the energy saving potential and the potential income that can be generated through the sale of electricity to the grid. The simulation outputs were compared with actual feasibility analyses in accordance with field conditions, thus identifying possible deviations between theoretical modelling and practical implementation. In the system design, critical components such as solar panels and inverters were carefully selected and factors such as loss analyses, optimal routing strategies and different energy consumption scenarios were taken into account. In the economic analysis dimension, the cost-effectiveness of the system, return on investment, long-term return on investment and the profit potential that can be obtained by selling excess electricity to the grid were evaluated. The research findings reveal that solar energy systems are a viable alternative energy source in Gölbaşı district in terms of both technical performance and economic sustainability. The results obtained aim to encourage the adoption of solar energy investments at individual and societal level and to provide a concrete roadmap for renewable energy projects. These analyses will contribute to a more realistic and comprehensive assessment of future energy projects and allow for more comprehensive planning, taking into account the potential for profit generation through the sale of electricity to the grid.
