Assessing quadriceps and hamstring muscle strength of wrestler and footballers with isokinetic system and investigation of their disability tendency

Abstract (EN)
This study aims to assess the training methods and connected to this to investigate disability tendency by measuring hamstring and quadriceps muscle strength of wrestlers and footballers with isokinetic dynamometer in different angles.20 wrestlers, 20 footballers and 20 controls (a total of 60 subjects) were participated in this study. The tested persons who participated in this study do their sporting activity 5 days a week and active athletes for at least five years. And all of them voluntarily participated in the study and are received a voluntary form.Knee flexion / extension muscle strength of the subjects was measured with "Biodex System 3" isokinetic dynamometer in 60 deg/sec and 180 deg/sec angular speeds. Research data analysis was performed by SPSS statistical package program. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey multiple comparison tests were used for comparing measurement results of isokinetic strength of the dominant and nondominant extremities of wrestler, footballers and controls.Significant statistical difference was observed between the controls and wrestlers when considering extensor (Q) 60 deg /sec angular speed of the peak torque values of dominant and nondominant extremities. Wrestlers had higher angular speed than the controls (p ? 0.01). Significant statistical difference was also seen between wrestlers and controls as well as footballers and controls when it is 180 deg /sec (p ? 0.001).It is found out that 60 deg/sec angular speed extensor (Q) peak torque / body weight values of dominant extremities of wrestlers and football were higher than that of the controls (p ? 0.05). It is also observed that the values of wrestlers and footballer higher than that of controls when it is 180 deg/sec (p ? 0.01). Significant statistical difference was observed between wrestlers and control when considering extensor (Q) 60 deg/sec angular speed of the peak torque values of nondominant extremities. Wrestlers had higher angular speed than the controls (p ? 0.05). Significant statistical difference was also seen between the values of wrestlers and controls as well as the values of footballers and controls when it is 180 deg /sec (p ? 0.001).No significant statistical difference was observed on dominant extremities of wrestlers, footballers and the controls when it is 60 and 180 deg/sec angular speeds of H/Q peak torque ratios (p>0.05). However, it is seen that 180 deg/sec angular speed of H/Q peak torque ratios of controls was higher than that of footballers (p ? 0.05).In this study, we have seen that the sportsmen have less H/Q ratio as the quality of the game and the league level increases.In addition, It was found out that the higher of the angular speed, the higher of the H/Q ratio. During the study, we have seen that all dominant extremity results were higher than nondominant extremity results (p ? 0.05). However, the difference between these wasn?t 10% which is considered as critical level considering disability.In addition to these, it is observed that when the angular speed increases, quadriceps and hamstring muscle strength and peak torque, peak torque / body weight values falls, also quadriceps peak torque and peak torque / body weight values were higher than the values of hamstring muscles. Peak torque values of wrestlers who use lower extremity static force more often was higher than that of the footballers who trains using dynamic force in all angular speeds.In conclusion, it is found out that H/Q, and dominant-nondominant ratio and peak torque and peak torque / body weight values of sportsmen who participated in this study aren?t at a level which primarily cause disability, but at a level adopted within limits. In other words, it is determined that there is no disability tendency and development of strength imbalance of sportsmen. This case have shown that they trained with a correct training methods, therefore, there is no need to provide a new approach about the training methods for wrestler and footballers participated in this study.
