Determination of fall risk according to Hendrich ii and Itaki fall scale

Abstract (EN)

This study was designed as cross-sectional and descriptive with the aim of determining fall risks of patients according to Hendrich II Fall Risk Scale and İtaki Fall Scale and their sensitivity for determinationol falls. A total of 132 patients constituted study sample. Data were collected with a demographic form including sociodemographic features and risk factors for falling, Glasgow Coma Scale, Hendrich II Fall Risk Scale, İtaki Fall Scale, fall registration form and evaluated with percentage and ROC analysis. In our study, patients' length of hospital stay is a minimum of 7 to 30 days maximum. The average length of stay is 12,8±4,87 days. Falls were detected in 6,06% (n=8) of the patients during hospitalization. Falls was occured 2-16 between days from the admission to service of patient. Sensitivity of Hendrich II Fall Scale and İtaki Fall Risk Scale were found both as 62,50% respectively. Determination of the patients with fall risk using fall risk determination tools is important. Both scales were seen to be moderately effective for determining patients with fall risk. However, use of the Hendrich II Fall Risk Scale for greater specificity and power has been found more suitable. Keywords: Fall risk, risk assessment, falls, nursing, sensitivity.
