Abstract (EN)

This study examines the cost of shipping goods in containers between Shanghai and Istanbul by sea. Not many studies have focused on this route before. Therefore, this research is unique because the average cost of shipping between these two ports is calculated. It was found in the study that it costs around 390,033 usd / TEU to go through the Suez Canal. However, if the ship goes around the Cape of Good Hope instead, it costs about 525,291 usd / TEU.Real data and international prices for things like fuel and renting ships were used. Additionally, a comparison was made of how long each route takes. It was observed that going through the Suez Canal takes about 19 days and 16 hours, while going around the Cape of Good Hope takes much longer, about 35 days and 16 hours. Even though going through the Cape of Good Hope costs more and takes longer, recent problems like attacks and accidents in the Suez Canal have made it important to consider other options. Therefore, even though it's not the cheapest or quickest route, going around the Cape of Good Hope could be considered a good idea to keep international trade running smoothly.
