Abstract (EN)
Introduction : Thrombocytopenia is the situation where the number of thrombocytes is less than 150000/mm3. This may result due to the decreased thrombocyte production, increase in the destruction of thrombocytes and the differentiation in distribution of thrombocytes. Hereditary and acquired diseases both contribute this diseases but the acquired reasons are more common in aged ones. In this study we aimed to present the patients? data with thrombocytopenia in the eastern Turkey and the underlying diseases that cause thrombocytopenia in order to contribute to Turkey and world literature.Material and Methods : In this study the evaluation of the 1012 patients with thrombocytopenia who admitted to Inonu University Medical Faculty Turgut Ozal Medical Center Hematology Polyclinic, hematology service, emergency room and the ones who were consulted by other departments in the hospital and the etiology was retrospectively evaluated. The number and the etiologic diagnosis of the patients were calculated as percentage and totally.Findings : The number of the patients were 508 female and 504 were male. The mean age was 51±20 years( female:47, male: 54). The mean number of the thrombocytes was 64287/mm3±43057 (female:61857/mm3, male:66729/mm3). The mean number of leukocytes was 13894/mm3±32711 (female:11970/mm3, male:15827/mm3). The mean number of hemoglobin was 11.22 g/dL±3.03 g/dL (female:10.85 g/dL, male:11.6 gr/dL). Leukemias, infections and the immune thrombocytopenias composed almost the half of the patients. The rest were composed of drugs, chronic liver diseases, megaloblastic anemias, pseudothrombocytopenias, thrombotic microangiopathies and other diseases. Conclusion : The reasons of the thrombocytopenia differs due to the level of development of countries, geographic distribution and the step level of health centers. It?s an expected situation for thrombocytopenia reasons that the high rate of infections can be accused in developing countries and malignant diseases are the first reason in developed countries.Key words: Thrombocyte, Thrombocytopenia, etiology, leukemia, infections, immun thrombocytopenia
