Nurses identify the ekg diagnosis observed in emergency heart illnesses and to which they can evaluate the appropriate treatment methods

SUMMARYDetermination Of The Abilities Of The Nurses In Diagnosing The ECGFindings About In Emergency Heart Diseases And In Deciding TheAppropriate Treatment Approaches.In this study, we aimed to determine the abilities of the nurses serving inevery unit, in diagnosing the ECG findings observed in emergency heart diseases onin deciding the appropriate treatment approaches.This study was carried out on 210 nurses who serve in AfyonkarahisarKocatepe University Rectorship Ahmet Necdet Sezer Practice and ResearchHospital, Afyonkarahisar State Hospital, Afyonkarahisar Kocatepe State Hospitaland Afyonkarahisar Hospital of Thoracic Diseases between the dates of August 2004and September 2004 and who accepted to participate.A survey form comprising of 3 parts has been used as a data compiling devicein the study. The first part included demographic findings; the second part includedmultiple choice questions pertaining to ECG monitoring, ECG diagnosis andemergency nursing application and the third part included two open ended questions.The survey form was applied to the nurses by the researcher in person. SPSS forWindows 11.0 (Statistical Package of Science) was utilized in the evaluation of thedata and chi-square test was used in the statistical analysis.It was discovered in this study that the most significant factors affecting theinformation level on emergency ECG diagnosis and emergency nursing incentives ofthe nurses serving in the Centrum of the province of Afyonkarahisar are whether theyhave participated in orientation programs and which units they are working in. It wasobserved that the information level of the nurses serving in the intensive care unitsand emergency units of tertiary care health services about ECG findings of MI(Myocardias Infarction) and emergency applications was higher.In our study 93,3% of the nurses expressed that they didn?t know the rightECG monitoring and they couldn?t recognise the type of the arrhythmia. 80% of theparticipating nurses were identified to carry out the ECG monitoring with errors and3PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.comit was stated that one?s working in university hospital and the duration of the usageof the device had no significant effect on correctly positioning the chest derivationsin ECG monitoring.It was observed that 88,1% of the nurses haven?t participated in orientationprograms. In our study, we found that, there was a relation between the type of healthservices that the nurses work and they have panticipated in an orientation program ornot. The nurses who worked in tertiary care hospital, were found to participate morefruquently in orientation programs.Only 38,1% of the nurses were found to be able to identify VF rhythm.However, 20,5% of the nurses stated that they could carry out defibrillation .It was found out that the duration of the usage of the device of the nurses hadno effect on their giving right answers to the questions and educatıon level had nodifference of the right answers to questions. In conclusion it was found out that, inthe center of Afyonkarahisar, nurses who works in the secondary and the tertiarycare health services have to develop their knowledge about ECG and emergency.Key Words: emergency, information level, ECG, nurses, heart diseases.4PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.com
