Abstract (EN)

Landslides and Application of Rize Region Landslides or slope failures date back as old as the age of the earth's crust. It is essential to investigate the problem of landslides in details and produce solutions for them since frequent occurence of landslides in Turkey, especially in Eastern Black region and the loss of properties and lives. In this study necessary measures to prevent landslides have been stated. Also the stability of an area nearly 10.000m2 in Ocak (Pazar-Rize) has been investigated. For this purpose, a map of the area with 1/500 scale and cross sections have been prepared through geodetic measurement to calculate the stability of slopes. Also for same purpose, engineering properties of soil have been determined by laboratory tests. These properties are internal friction angle (), cohesion (c), density (pn) and grain size distribution. After determining these properties, stability calculations of slopes have been made on cross sections according to Bishop and Janbu methods with a computer program namely STABL5. Consequently, it is pointed out that the investigated area has no landslide risk. It is stated that if there will be any construction activity, stability analysis should be done again. Key Words: Landslide, Slope Stability VII
