Improving story writing skills of primary school fourth grade students

Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted with the aim of improving the written narration skills of primary school 4th grade students, their levels of using story elements in their stories and their writing capabilities. The research was conducted with 12 students receiving education in a primary school located in Sultanhisar district of Aydin province in 2015-2016 academic year. In the research, qualitative and quantitative data before, during and after the application were collected by Story Elements Evaluating Scale (SEES), Written Narration Evaluation Form (WNEF), Writing Skill Interview Form (WSIF), researcher and student diaries, field notes, control list, student products and evaluation forms. As a result of the evaluation of the stories written by the students before and after the application by 3 separate raters by using SEES and WNEF, statistical analysis of the obtained quantitative data was conducted. On the other hand the qualitative data obtained by WSIF was resolved by descriptive analysis. As a result of the research, it was determined that the applications conducted in line with story writing program developed the written narration skills of students and that they increased their levels of using story elements in their stories and their writing skills.
