Abstract (EN)
Technological changes that increase an army's firepower by an order of magnitude and are directed by the military rather than socio-economic circumstances are called Revolutions in Military Affairs (RMA). An RMA goes towards unmanned warfare, where humans are gradually removed from the battlefield, or to an increasing of manned weapons by assisting them with Unmanned Vehicles, Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems and Artificial Intelligence Systems. The thesis argues that AI based weapons are superior to the manned counterparts due to their inhumane ability to process information in a fast manner and cooperate with each other in ways humans cannot. It also argues that removing soldiers and manned weapon system from warzone would make warfare more humane, as the savagery of war does not come from the conflict, but through human emotions such as fear and the will to survive. Machines lack these emotions. Lastly, the thesis states that while these changes could make warfare more humane, it would also make it more frequent, as removing humans from battlefields would decrease the cost of war in both human and financial terms, making it easier for states to go to war.
