The impact of Türkiye's role as a rising power in Afghanistan peacebuilding process

This dissertation aims to make an in-depth analysis to understand the impact of Türkiye's role as a rising power in Afghanistan peacebuilding process. More so, the study investigates how Türkiye's contribution to Afghanistan peacebuilding process has shaped the perception of the Afghan public and the most significant regional actors addressed in this thesis. In addition, the dissertation aimed to study Türkiye's overall humanitarian aid, and development projects in Afghanistan. Hence, the study utilized qualitative method and fundamentally relied on document analysis in order to get a plausible answer. The study found that Türkiye's involvement in Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks marked a new era of Afghan-Turkish relations. Taking into account that the relationship has been growing in strength since the 20th century. The study demonstrates that Türkiye's foreign policy toward Afghanistan is inextricably linked to its overall engagement with Central Asia. The findings show that Türkiye has contributed remarkably to the peacebuilding process in Afghanistan. The study findings also revealed that regional actors are not feeling comfortable with Türkiye's involvement in Afghanistan because it contradicts their interests and strategies. The study argues that the comprehensive approach that included humanitarian, development, security, education, infrastructure, health sector, and other assistance at a vital time unprecedentedly impacted the fate of Afghanistan peacebuilding process. On the other hand, the study discovered that Türkiye's comprehensive approach which has widely covered all sectors necessary for the recovery of Afghan society has earned Türkiye prestige and goodwill in the international stage. As a result, the study argues that Türkiye's involvement in Afghanistan as a rising power has had a positive impact. Furthermore, the study was able to expose some crucial findings that will further pave the way for further research on Türkiye's role as a rising power in Afghanistan peacebuilding process. This dissertation serves as a synopsis of Türkiye's role in peacebuilding process in Afghanistan. The findings may also serve to develop an understanding regarding how Türkiye's peacebuilding role in Afghanistan become a role model. The findings may also be helpful in comparing Türkiye's peacebuilding model to other actors.
