Abstract (EN)

The role of metacognition in learning process has been researched since 30 years. This action research study was an attempt to integrate metacognitive reading strategy training into English lessons to make the students aware of their thinking processes as they have been engaged in reading tasks. The study was conducted in the second term of 2013-2014 academic years at Mehmet Akif Secondary School in Adana, Turkey. Convenience sampling strategy was used when choosing the participants of the present study. The participants of the present study were 26 intermediate level 8th grade students between the ages of 13 and 14. The researcher's diary, semi-structured interviews and Reading Strategy Survey were used as the data collection tools. The findings of the study revealed that integration of metacognitive reading strategies into English lessons help students to utilize these strategies during reading comprehension and so understand the texts easily.
