Daha sonra dolEffect of Discharge Education Given to Patients Undergoing Intertrochanteric Fracture Surgery on Discharge Readiness and Surgical Recovery Aim: This study was conducted to determine whether discharge education given to patients who underwent intertrochanteric femur fracture surgery had an effect on surgical recovery and readiness for discharge. Methods: The study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial. The study was conducted with 60 patients who underwent intertrochanteric femur fracture surgery at the orthopedic clinics of Elazığ Fethi Sekin City Hospital and Fırat University Faculty of Medicine Research Hospital between April 2023 and July 2024, who met the research criteria and gave their consent. The study data were collected using the Sociodemographic form, Toronto Wound Symptom Assessment System, Discharge Readiness Scale and Patient Assessment Form. Data were collected in four stages: before discharge, and at the second, fourth and eighth weeks after discharge. In the first stage, patient introduction and patient assessment forms were applied to all patients face to face. Then, discharge education was given to the intervention group and a booklet containing the education topics was given to them. The control group patients were followed up according to clinical standards. Both patient groups were reached by phone and the patient assessment form was filled out at the second, fourth and eighth weeks after discharge. In the analysis of the data; Frequency and percentage analyses, chi-square analysis, standard deviation, and Anova test for repeated measures were used to compare within-group repeated test mean scores. Results: It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between the surgical recovery score averages of the intervention and control group patients before discharge and in the second, fourth and eighth weeks after discharge. (p<0,05). There was no statistically significant difference between the surgical recovery score averages between the groups in the second, fourth and eighth weeks after discharge (p>0,05). There was no statistically significant difference between the discharge readiness self-assessment scale and its subscales between the intervention and control groups (p>0,05). Conclusion: The research results indicate that the discharge education provided to patients with intertrochanteric femur fractures did not create a statistically significant difference between the intervention and control groups in terms of readiness for discharge and surgical recovery processes.
