An auteur in Iranian cinema: Majid Majedi cinema

Iranian Cinema, which has immensely developed for the last 50 years, has also taken part in the western world with its unique style. It has been successfully awarded in the prestigious festival such as Berlin Film Festival and Cannes Film Fesitval also Academy Awards (Oscar). It is undenaible fact that Hollywood Cinema plays dominant role in the global world. By using the high budget and with the latest technology, American film producers try to impose their own cultures to the world making popular films devoting to general audience. İranian Cinema is on the other hand much more different than Hollywood. The budget shared for the cinema is relatively small amount. Following to İslamic Revolution and oppressive censorship, the average of using sexuality and force is the films are in minimum level. In view of cultural perpective, the cinema in Iran, which keeps in distance from Western World, turns into its own art expressionalist style. It is clearly visiable that the Persian Culture and Persian Empire having rooted on the iranian geography, whose origin dates before A.D., has an immense effect on the cinema as in many arts of Iran. Besides this, Islam is another important element with its art, culture in iranian cinema. Iranian Directord successfully reflect their own cultural codes in their productions and by doing so they glorify iranian cinema with their unique style of sembolical expression. The aim of this thesis is to observe the art style of Mecid Mecidi as an auter, who is writer and director having an important place in iranian cinema and aprreciated all over the world with his unique art style. Mecidi names his understanding of cinema as "Wisdom of Cinema" and focusing into the stories, in which the persian culture and Islamic view unites with charity, good moral, kindness, beliefs, respect. According to him, the Wisdom of Cinema shows people into the direction of good and beauty and also guiding them to the right path. Mecidi, who is an acclaimed director and popular by Iranians, has a mission to share his own films all over the world by sending the universal kindess and respect message of Islam to the everybody. The Thesis is aimed at observing the cinematical features of persian and islamical discourse with respect to the cultural code of Mecidi Cinema.
