Investigation of work accidents according to social security legislation: The case of Çorum

Accidents at work; These are events that affect the insured, employer, beneficiary, third parties and the state and cause many negative consequences. The expenses financed by the state as a result of the accidents that have taken place have reached a level that cannot be ignored due to the development of the scope of social security today. In our country, these expenses are financed by the Social Security Institution. The fact that the costs are quite high and the applicable legislation gives the Social Security Institution the right to recourse these costs. It can be ensured that recourse transactions can be carried out in accordance with the law and equity, the determination of defects in work accidents and the determination of defect rates. The determination of these defect rates is made by the Social Security Institution Inspectors. Following the occupational accidents, these inspection units carry out investigations and an inspection report is prepared. Based on the reports prepared, recourse proceedings are made and the sanctions in the legislation are applied, and these reports constitute the basis for the decisions of the judges in many cases filed after the accident. In this study, the work accident reports prepared by the Social Security Institution Inspectors after the work accidents that took place in the province of Corum between 2017-2021 were examined, the data obtained were analyzed and concrete events were included. In addition, suggestions were made to improve the control mechanism in occupational accidents.
