Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, it is aimed to display the background of the wars committed from the period of the prophet Muhammad (P.U.H) to the end of the Umayyad Dynasty. It is essential to understand the wars nicely particularly in the first century of the Hegira in order to perceive the concept of War in İslam accurately and to answer the baseless accusing of the Westerner authors. The Prophet Muhammad confronted a serious response after he announced his prophethood. As long as the new social structure gained power alternatively to tribal life, the pressures of unbeliever groups rose and it laid the groundwork for prophet-period wars to gain legality. After the Hegira, the Muslims who had to move far from their homeland preferred to be an active part in the war made against them. These wars, in which the principle of morality was brought, can be commented as a new structure?s -which endeavored to complete the process of creation- struggle of conserve and call itself into being. The wars in Four Caliphs and Umayyad Dynasty can be interpreted as completing the building of which the Prophet formed the basis. Although depressing events and civil wars came into being in the Islamic World after the murder of Osman (the 3rd Caliph), we can see governers who struggle for completing this building till the end of the Umayyad Dynasty. In this thesis the details of this process and strategies and tactics in the wars are dealt in detail.
