Investigation of contagious agalactia disease presence in sheeps and goats in İsparta and Afyonkarahisar region

Abstract (EN)
Contagious agalactia disease, which is one of the major problems of ovine breeding, has a high morbidity rate and leading to significant economic losses. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of Contagious agalactia in Isparta and Afyonkarahisar region. 45.500 small ruminant in 220 herds were screened for Contagious agalactia. A total of 202 animals were sampled from 139 goats, 56 sheep, 3 goats, 2 goats, 2 lambs from 21 herds. 91 milk samples, 28 nasal swabs, 101 eye swabs, 8 articular fluids, 61 ear swabs, total 289 samples were taken. Mycoplasma spp. was isolated from 3 nasal swabs. Mycoplasma agalactiae PCR was applied to 3 isolates isolated to be Mycoplasma spp. and the isolates found to be negative for M. agalactiae. Colony morphologies were examined and biochemical tests and growth inhibition test revealed that 1 (0.49%) was M. arginine and 2 (0.99%) were found to be M. ovipneumoniae with centerless colony morphology. As a result, none of the four factors causing Contagious agalactia were isolated and identified.
