Effect of workplace ergonomy and work-life balance on business performance

Abstract (EN)

As a result of the rapid development of the industry and the increasing competitive environment, work accidents caused by unhealthy working environments create pressure on employees. This pressure disrupts the work-life balance of individuals and affects productivity; thus, negatively affecting business performance. It is possible to eliminate the possible unfavorable situations through ergonomic arrangements in the work environment. Workplace ergonomics are crucial in working life, there is a need to improve "Workplace Ergonomics" scale, which was previously used to measure the effect of ergonomical factors affecting business performance, by also including occupational health and safety issues. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Workplace Ergonomics and Work-Life Balance on Business Performance. Workplace Ergonomics Scale, Work-Life Balance Scale, and Business Performance Scale was used for the study. The sample of the study consists of 1093 white and blue-collar workers in the production enterprises in the Organized Industrial Zones in Bursa. SPSS (18.0) and AMOS (16.0) were used for the statistical analysis in the study. Distribution of demographic data analysis, factor analysis, validity and reliability analysis, t-tests, ANOVA tests, correlation and regression analysis were performed with SPSS. With the findings obtained as a result of the correlation analysis made in the study, positive and significant relationships between workplace ergonomics and business performance were found. In addition, a positive significant relationship was found between work-life balance and business performance. As a result of the regression analysis, it has been determined that workplace ergonomics positively affects the business performance, as well as the work-life balance positively affects the business performance.
