Synthesis, spectroscopic, thermal and structural properties of itaconate and imidazole derived Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes

Abstract (EN)
In this work, [Co(ita)(2-IPim)2]n (1), {[Cu(ita)(2-IPim)2].2H2O}n (2), {[Cu(ita)(H2O)(viim)2].3H2O}n (3) and [Cu(ita)(4-Meim)2]n (4) complexes were synthesized by using itaconic acid and 2-isopropylimidazole (2-IPim), 1-vinylimidazole (viim) and 4-methylimidazole (4-Meim). These complexes characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction method. Also, spectroscopic (IR and UV-Vis.), magnetic and thermal properties were investigated. The frequency changes in COO- vibrations of the itaconate ligands were used to explain their coordination behaviour. Spin-only magnetic moments of the complexes were calculated by measuring their magnetic susceptibility at room temperature. All complexes were found to be paramagnetic. Thermal decomposition behaviour of complexes were investigated by TG, DTG and DTA techniques. The thermal stability of the complexes were suggested as [Co(ita)(2-IPim)2]n (1) (251°C)> [Cu(ita)(4-Meim)2]n (4) (189°C)> {[Cu(ita)(H2O)(viim)2].3H2O}n (3) (184°C)> {[Cu(ita)(2-IPim)2].2H2O}n (2) (158°C) by taking decomposition temperature of the anyhydrous form of the complexes into account. The structures of the synthesized compounds were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction method. In the complexes, the itaconate acted as dianionic monodentate bridge manner and bonded to the metals via its carboxylate oxygen. The imidazole ligands bonded to the metals via its nitrogen atoms. Coordination geometry of central atom in the [Co(ita)(2-IPim)2]n complex was distorted octahedral, in the {[Cu(ita)(2-IPim)2].2H2O}n complex was square planar, in the {[Cu(ita)(H2O)(viim)2].3H2O}n and [Cu(ita)(4-Meim)2]n complexes are square pyramid.
