Synthesis and evaluation of biological activity of novel hydrazide-hydrazones derived from isonicotinic acid

Abstract (EN)
Due to rising bacterial resistance, existing antibiotics and chemotherapeutic medicines may not be enough to properly treat infectious illnesses in the coming years. As a result, novel chemicals with high antibacterial and antifungal action are required. Many bioactive compounds include hydrazide-hydrazone derivatives, which have a wide range of biological activities including antibacterial, antitubercular, antifungal, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antiviral, and antiprotozoal properties. These compounds are being studied in new drug development studies from past to present. Given our country's net importer status in the pharmaceutical industry, it is felt that manufacturing and testing active compounds such as oxadiazoles that might evolve into medications is necessary to improve our worldwide competitiveness. In this thesis, a new hydrazide-hydrazone derivative containing 12 sulfonate groups was synthesized and characterized. Antioxidant activities of these 12 newly synthesized molecules were evaluated according to the FRAP and DPPH method. (E)-2-((2-isonicotinoylhydrazone)methyl)phenyl 4-methoxybenzenesulfonate (3) compound was found to have the best antioxidant activity according to both methods. It was found that various groups in the structure of the new compounds obtained were effective on antioxidant activity. It was determined that especially electron donating groups increased antioxidant activity. These 12 novel compounds, which were synthesized based on these findings, are regarded to have the potential to be utilized in medication development research.
