Evaluation of Julius Reiner's "Muhammed und der Islam" in terms of prophet's life

This thesis evaluates the book titled "Muhammed und der İslam" authored in 1907 by Dr. Julius Reiner who lived between 1871-1930. His approach to the Prophet and Islam is evaluated in the context of the Prophet's life. Despite being an academician, Reiner had occasionally compromised scientific principles for writing his work in a popular style for German society. Because of his prejudices on the religion of Islam and the Prophet, he occasionally exhibited false information and ideological approaches. For this reason, the problematic parts of his work are generally analyzed in terms of the sources of Islamic History. In the first part of the thesis, the concepts of Orientalism and German Orientalism are mentioned in terms of both the meaning and the historical exhibition. In addition, Reiner's life and his works as well as orientalists who were in the cornerstone of his time were examined in order to determine Reiner's and his works position. In the second part, Reiner's comments on the subject of Islam, Qur'an, Sunnah and Ahl al-Kitab which he mentioned in his work and the evaluations of these interpretations are given. In the third part, it is given that Reiner's opinions and evaluations on the Jahiliye, Mecca, Medina and personality of the Prophet within the framework of his work. In addition to that critiques and analyzes in terms of the sources on Prophet's life are included. In this sense, It is aimed to determine Reiner's perception of Prophet and Islam. Lastly, translations of Reiner's work titled "Muhammed und der Islam" and 'Muhammed's Sendung" as well as a bibliography of the German studies on the Prophet's life are presented in Appendixes.
