The different strength values and the effects of plyometric, core and resistance band (theraband) trainings on swimming performances of female swimmers

Abstract (EN)

This study aims to find an answer to the question of which land strength (plyometric, core and resistance band) training have a greater impact on the four basic styles (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle) and mixed swimming performances in which all four of them were used. The research group consists of 20 female athletes between the ages of 11-13. Physical (height-weight), motoric tests (leg strength-vertical jump-back strength-30 sec sit-up-right and left hand grip strength) and swimming performance (200 m mixed-50 m butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle) measurements were made. The data obtained in the research were analyzed in the SPSS 26.0 for windows statistical package program. After descriptive statistics for the physical characteristics of the research group, normality analyzes of the data set were performed. Due to the small number of athletes in the groups, the Shapiro-Wilk test was applied, and after examining the kurtosis-skewness values, it was concluded that the distribution was normal. For this reason, "Paired Sample T-Test" was used in intragroup pre- and post-test comparisons, and "One Way Anova" in intergroup pre- and post-test comparisons, and "Tukey" tests, one of the posthoc tests, were used to detect significant differences, taking into account the homogeneity of the distributions. The results were interpreted at the p.05 level. Four different groups were formed with 200 m mixed style values (1st group plyometric; 2nd group ore; 3rd group resistance band (theraband); 4th group control). As a result of the research, when the intragrup pre-post test values of the swimmers were examined, there were significant differences in body mass, height, leg strength, vertical jump, back strength, 30 sec shit-up, right and left hand grip strength, 200 m mixed, 50 m butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. As a result of the intergroup pre-test values, it was determined that there was no significant difference in any of the groups, and in the post-test values, there were significant differences in 30-sec sit-up, 200 m mixed and 50 m backstroke styles. According to the results, plyometric exercises applied to swimmers have a significant effect on leg and back strength, core exercises on leg, back and abdominal strength, and theraband exercises on hand grip strength. While all exercise types showed a significant effect on mixed style, body exercises were more effective than others. Upper extremity exercises were effective on the butterfly style intragroup and body training was effective on the butterfly style intergroups. While lower, upper extremity and body exercises provided significant improvement on backstroke style, the effects of body and upper extremity exercises were more important. Lower extremity exercises provided significant improvement on breaststroke style. Finally, lower, upper extremity and in-water exercises provided significant improvement in free style. In conclusion; comparing to the values of women before and after 12-week strength training was compared, it is recommended that the trainers prefer body trainings and core trainings for the athletes with mixed and butterfly style; body trainings (core) and upper extremity (resistance band) trainings for the athletes with breaststroke style; lower extremity trainings and plyometric trainings for the athletes with breaststroke; the lower extremity, body and upper extremitt trainings for the athletes with free style.
