Abstract (EN)

Urban public spaces are areas where people can renew themselves physically and mentally. Considering the decrease in the number of public spaces as a result of rapid urbanization, especially in Istanbul, and the opportunities these areas provide to cities, the importance and need for public spaces must be reconsidered. Squares, which are among the public spaces, have become prestige areas of cities and areas where citizens can meet, celebrate and meet many of their needs. When planning public spaces, the design, construction and using phases should be evaluated separately. Public spaces that have been opened for use after the design and construction phases have been completed should be evaluated from the user's perspective "POE: post occupancy evaluation". The efficiency of currently used public space should be increased through the Post Occupancy method. This study was carried out within the scope of the post occupancy evaluation of Maltepe Republic Square, which has been opened on March 2024. Survey scanning were made using the POE method in the case study. As a result of the survey, feedback has been received from the users and analyzes have been made regarding the field. Suggestions have been made for more efficient use of public space, and it is aimed that these suggestions will play a role in determining the design criteria for future public space designs.
