Abstract (EN)

Resistance and Propulsion Analysis and Designing Propulsion Systems of Traditional Black-Sea Fishing Vessels In this study; it is aimed to develop a computer code for designing propulsion systems of traditional Black-Sea fishing vessels. For this purpose; the shipyards located in East Black Sea Region are examined in detail and significant increases are observed at the speeds and dimensions of fishing vessels constructed in these shipyards as a consequence of the changing requests. Unfortunately, these shipyards don't have sufficient knowledge for choosing main machines and designing propulsion systems with big dimensions and high speed conditions. Therefore, wrong propulsion systems have been designed and wrong main machines having more power than required have been chosen. It is clear that besides the construction costs, operating costs also increase. For these reasons, designing new fishing vessels suited for Turkish Seas and appropriate propulsion systems for fishing vessels which are still constructed in East Black Sea Region are required. hi the presented study, the main topics are determining suitable ship resistance prediction methods and developing a practical computer code by using Microsoft Excel to design propulsion system of fishing vessels. Suitable methods for fishing vessels constructed in East Black Sea Region were determined by applying these methods on fishing vessels constructed in Turkey and of which model tank tests were performed previously. Prepared computer programs have been applied to four different fishing vessels constructed in East Black Sea Region and propulsion systems of these vessels have been designed at three different design conditions by selecting five different propellers. The results obtained from computer codes were compared with each other and with the existing propulsion systems of fishing vessels. Consequently, it is cocluded that the computer program prepared here is useful for designing optimum propulsion systems of fishing vessels constructed in East Black Sea Region.
