Abstract (EN)
In this study, the relationship between sibling relationships, perceived parental acceptance rejection, self-esteem and subjective well-being levels of adult individuals with siblings was examined. The socio-demographic variables of the participants and their subjective well-being levels were evaluated, and the criteria of having an older sister/brother/sibling was discussed. Pearson correlation analysis, independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and hierarchical regression analysis were used to analyze the results. The sample of the study consists of 389 undergraduate and graduate participants between the ages of 18 and 35. In the study, the Sibling Relationship Scale, Parental Acceptance Rejection Scale- Short Form, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and Subjective Well-Being Scale were used as data collection tools; socio-demographic information of the participants was obtained with the Demographic Information Form. Considering the findings of the study, no significant difference was found between the subjective well-being levels of male and female participants. It was also found that the educational level of the participants did not create a significant difference between the groups. It was observed that participants with primary school graduate parents and low income levels had lower levels of subjective well-being. When the level of subjective well-being was evaluated according to age group criteria, it was observed that the subjective well-being levels of participants between the ages of 18-23 differed significantly compared to other groups. A significant relationship was found between sibling relationships, perceived parental acceptance-rejection, self-esteem and subjective well-being levels of adult individuals with siblings. It was found that male participants perceived more rejecting behaviors from their mothers and fathers on average in all areas. Sisters and older sisters were found to be more supportive than brothers and older brothers. Considering the limited number of studies on sibling relationships in emerging adulthood and the importance of family relationships on variables, it is thought that the study may be a guide for current research.
