Abstract (EN)
Art and science show progress together and they are one of the most important parameters of development levels of countries, nations and societies. Moreover, art generates new concepts, environments and tools with the contributions of science and technology. Caricature as an art discipline, as for all other fields of art, needs to be defined through new approaches such as Wavelet Transform and Neural Networks Methods which are commonly being used in image processing, compression, classification in various medical and biomedical fields. In this study, it is planned to apply such digital and analytical methods on Turkish and Australian caricature data. Due to parallelism on drawing styles and characteristics of same periods' or following periods' caricatures of artists; physical classification and separation of caricatures become harder. In addition, criticisms on caricatures commonly are to be interpretative without exact analytical indicators. Moreover, originality and similarity concepts are discussed in almost every discipline of art as well as caricature. By using computer aided methods, technology-centric perspective through this problem is aimed to be developed. 20th century caricatures are preferred as classification data. It was a period that caricature production increased in both Turkey and Australia, and similarities of caricatures were quite noticeable. The historic partnership between Turkey and Australia that positioned opposite to each other in war becomes another reason of selecting caricatures of 20th century. In this period, war and post-war destruction in two different geographies were frequently drawn in caricatures.
