British prisoners in the Kastamonu (1916-1917)

Abstract (EN)
The subject of the thesis covers the period between the bringing of the British soldiers which were taken prisoner with the victory of Kutul Amare on April 29, 1916 during the First World War to the Kastamonu Prisoners Garrison and the closure of the garrison. Ottoman archival documents and information in the memoirs of the prisoners were used to illuminate events of the period. In the introduction part of the thesis, due to its connection with the subject of the thesis, the reasons of the First World War and the process of entry of the Ottoman State's into the war are summarized. In the first part, Turkish-British relations and Kutul Amare victory were emphasized. In the next section where the main subject of the thesis is discussed; bringing of the captives to Kastamonu, their settlement, their lives here and the events that took place until the camp was closed. This period has been tried to be revealed in the light of archival documents, memoirs and other research works.
