Determination of the effects of Kastamonu city zoning applications on historical urban texture

The historical and cultural environment is not only a legacy left to us from our ancestors, but also irreplaceable treasures that we have a responsibility to pass on to future generations. The transfer of cultural and natural heritages through generations by ensuring the balance of protection and sustainability throughout history is a multidimensional issue. The buildings that make up the historical textures and the open and green spaces shaped around them have been the most active living spaces of cities throughout history. The open and green spaces in the historical urban fabric carry important traces about the social, cultural and economic structure of the cities they are in, with their original values such as their forms, plant species and historical structures. In addition, by acting as a buffer between the new construction area and the historical core, it makes an important contribution to the preservation of the historical texture. For this reason, ensuring the protection of historical heritages not on the scale of a single building, but together with the green areas around it, forms the basis of the subject of protection. As a result of the important breaking points that have occurred throughout history, the change in the living and working conditions of the citizens has brought about the change in demands and needs. As a result of this, the social, cultural and economic transformations that took place especially in the historical city centers had an impact on the changes that took place on the historical cores. Purpose of the study; The aim of this study is to examine the change in the historical process of Kastamonu Urban Site, where traditional residential and commercial texture and monumental structures coexist, in line with the applied planning policies, and to evaluate the effects of these changes on the open and green areas in the study area. Within the purpose, 1970 zoning plan, 1979 and 1990 conservation zoning plans were examined and the change in the urban site area was evaluated in line with the plan decisions. It was determined that there were changes in the conservation status and areal sizes during the process. In addition, it has been tried to evaluate the changes in the use of the land and their reasons, and to reveal the effect of the plans on the urban protected area.
