Abstract (EN)
The Industrial Revolution triggered significant changes in production and consumption patterns, leading to the emergence of various reactive movements. Among these, the Do It Yourself (DIY) Culture continues to thrive today as an approach where individuals design and create their own spaces. In this culture, where the user is both the producer and the consumer, motivations such as the need for belonging, personal preferences, and the pursuit of economical solutions are clearly evident. Looking at the Post industrial era, it's apparent that traditional design methods often neglected user participation, thereby overlooking individual needs. The shortcomings of these traditional methods, which tended to either eliminate or standardize the user, were key factors in the rise of DIY Culture, where individuals began to develop their own methods and solutions. This study explores the full impact of the DIY approach, which is centered on user participation, by examining the historical development of DIY Culture and User-Centered Design as interconnected phenomena. The study also analyzes the effects of this relationship at different scales, including the user, interior spaces, products, and the environment, and looks at how these effects influence one another. To do this, it selects a range of DIY applications related to interior spaces and furnishings from the virtual environment and conducts a visual content analysis, presenting its findings in a narrative style.
