Abstract (EN)

Public spheres including greenways, streams and stream sides, highways, railways, open spaces, parks, areas of pedestrians, roof gardens specified as urban corridors covers the parts of the system of whole open and green spaces of a city. As unique or mass, each part has a significant role in aesthetic and functional contribution to the city. In addition, aesthetic and functional smoothness of these spaces inspire the feelings of living in urban and paying more attention to the city. As characterizing factors, open and green spaces of an urban indicate not only the life standards of the city and citizens but also aesthetic and functional aspects of the city. Urban corridors and their characteristics are one of the most important effects for urban aesthetic and standard. Since Düzce is a reconstructing area and in an ongoing development, it is available to select as pattern to conduct a study. The purpose of this study covers the evaluation of composing a system including current open and green spaces, improvement of the proposals, determination of terms and conditions for implementation of such proposals, amendment including aesthetic and functional specifications with today?s urban conception. In this study, the concept of urban corridor, having a considerable importance in open and green spaces of the systems was discussed and their aesthetic and functional aspects were investigated. As a reconstructed city, the present urban corridors of Düzce and their aesthetic and functional aspects were studied with some examples and evaluated within the assistance of literature researches, analyses and observations. Obtained findings were supported with charts, figures, and photos. Consequently, 14 different corridors under 3 main categories have been assigned in Düzce including ?roads and side corridors?, ?pedestrian area corridors? and ?stream corridors?. Within the scope of main principles of planning and design, some solution-based proposals have been suggested for more aesthetic and functional concepts of these urban corridors reconstructed in Düzce.
