The four archetypes of Jung in Kerem ile Aslı's stories variants

Culture is formed when a nation preserves all its material and nonmaterial values and transfers it to the future generations. Folk narratives is also one of the important elements provides cultural transmission. Narratives also forms a significant part of folk narratives. In the beginning, narratives are transferred by verbally. In the narratives tradition, narratives are propagated and shaped via asik and meddah. In the later periods, It was put down on paper. Narratives; divides into classes as those on love, those on heroism, those both on love and heroism. Kerem ile Aslı story in situated amongst the stories those on love. Kerem ile Aslı story is commonly known amongst the Turkish narratives. The narrative was not only limited in Turkey and Azerbaijan. Today, It is known by whole Turkic world and preserves its existence in every location it reached. It is known everywhere from Balkans to Anatolia, Anatolia to Turkic Republics. Kerem ile Aslı dealt with love subject intimately. For this reason, It was well-liked and It was in interaction with the teller's places he visited, seen, travelled. Hence, similiar texts become diversified. This study is limited with the known similar texts of the Kerem ile Aslı in the western field. A variant of Kirkuk which was a Turkish land for hundreds of years is included. The narrative of Kerem ile Aslı, which has an important place in the memory of the folk, is also quite rich in motifs seen in Turkish narrative tradition. Therefore, motifs and episodes in the narrative are listed in this study. As the narrative is rich in these aspects, it is also important to be examined in archetypically. Last part of our thesis is consists of the examination of "archetypes", which Carl Gustav Jung, one of the founders of "Analytical Psychology", called "First Example" transferring the collective unconsciousness to future generations in the narrative of Kerem ile Aslı. In this narrative, four prominent archetypes of Jung "Mother", "anima-animus", "persona" and"shadow" are taken as a basis and was tried to be determined on the narrative of Kerem ile Aslı.
