Abstract (EN)

The primary purpose of this research is; To examine the effect of pain, anxiety and expected relief before root canal treatment on the amount of pain, anxiety and relief after treatment. Its secondary purpose is; It is an examination of the relationship between sociodemographic data and dental treatment histories and the amount of post-procedure pain, anxiety and relief. This study included 90 patients diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis and acute apical periodontitis who presented to the clinic with pain. Patients were given and filled anxiety scales (MDAS, STAI-S, STAI-T, NRS) to determine their pre treatment dental anxiety levels, Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) to determine their pain levels, NRS to determine the expected amount of relief, and forms related to their sociodemographic/dental history. Then, the patients underwent root canal treatment. At the end of the treatment, the anxiety and pain scales (MDAS, STAI - S, STAI-T, NRS) were reapplied to all patients and the amount of relief was determined. On days 1, 3 and 7, the patients were called and the NRS questions were asked again. Our findings show that post-procedural pain has a positive and significant relationship with pre and post procedural anxiety (p=0.012; p<0.001); post procedure anxiety has a positive significant relationship with pre procedure anxiety (p<0.001) and a negative significant relationship with the amount of relaxation before and after the procedure (p=0.003; p<0.001); It showed that the amount of relief after the procedure had a negative significant relationship 35 with pre and post procedure pain and anxiety (p=0.004; p<0.001), and a positive significant relationship with the expected amount of relief (p=0.007). Our findings revealed that the expected amount of relief may be a marker for post- procedure pain and anxiety. However, more studies are needed.
