A research and classification on manis of Konya

Manis (Turkish poems) have taken its place among the most favorite and used productions of anonymous folk literature. Based on this fact, Turkish poems have become the most important transmitter of verbal tradition. Benefitting from the compilations done in the province Konya since Turkish Folk Culture Research and Application Center of Seljuk University was established, we carried out our research in this master's thesis named as 'A Research and Classification on Manis of Konya'. This study is limited to the manis compiled in Konya and consists of two main chapter. In the first chapter of our research, definitions related to the term 'mani' in Turkish folk literature was given, historical development of manis was examined, theoretical and technical information as to this genre was discussed. All of the topics covered in the content of manis were examined in details as well as studies and classifications related to manis carried out by researchers were given place throughout this chapter. The relationship between mani and such productions of Anonymous Folk Literature as ballad, dirge, lullaby, epic, anecdote, fairy tale, riddle, rhyme, pray, curse, idiom and proverb was investigated. In the second chapter, tradition of saying mani in Konya was evaluated and compiled Konya manis were divided into three categories. Manis which were categorized in three main parts as shape, topic, preparation and application were presented with examples. Consequently, in addition, in an attempt to give the meaning of archaic words included in manis, a simple mani dictionary was conducted. In the last section, references used throughout the thesis by means of citations and quotations were divided into three categories. The first category is bibliography of the book whereas the second is references for virtual network. The last and third category is reference section in which people compiling manis were given.
