The concept of prophecy of Mehmed Vehbi Efendi from Konya

Mehmed Vehbi Effendi (1861-1949) was an intellectual and politician who witnessed the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the first years of the Republic of Turkey, who was a teacher in madrasahs and who penned works in the fields of Kalām, Hadith and Tafsir. The period Vehbi Effendi lived in was a politically tumultuous time. Even though he took on important missions during this period, he didn't neglect his scholar side and penned works in different fields. Vehbi Effendi defended Islamic belief and practices devotedly against the negative criticisms and attacks that positivism and materialism had made about the principals of belief in Islam. It is of extreme importance in terms of knowledge to examine the opinions of an author, who lived in such a period of time, about Islamic belief and practices and to transfer themto today. In this study we discussed concepts of nubuwwah in general and Vehbi Effendi's concept of nubuwwah in particular. This thesis is made up of prologue, three parts and result. In the prologue, primarily we talked about the subject of our thesis, its importance, its goal and the methods. Later onwe talk about Vehbi Effendi's life, his works, social and political situation of the period he lived in. In the first part of the develop pment we talked about the concepts related to nubuwwah and Vehbi Effendi's understanding of the nubuwwah and his views on miracle. In the second part, we talked about the prophecy of Mohammed (Pbuh) and his miracles. In the results we evaluated the subject of our research. In our study we benefited from classical resources particularly Vehbi Effendi's works and current resources.
